R Family Biking Session – May 27 2017 | Drayton Valley Documentary Photographer
As a (mostly) documentary photographer I love telling people’s stories. My goal is to capture and preserve for you the things that define your family. This particular family has been in my life for a long time. J and I met at the beginning of university, and our lives have taken a similar path as far as our families are concerned. She has boys and I have girls, but we each have three children similar in age and personalities. Her boys have given me many opportunities to hone my craft over the years, and I took a trip to see them a few weeks ago to do just that.
When I think of this family, I think of three things: good food (J is a fantastic cook and has taught me to relax and actually enjoy the kitchen), the outdoors, and biking. We decided to document some bike maintenance in the backyard, and to hopefully capture their four-year-old’s first time riding with pedals and no training wheels. The latest addition to the family doesn’t allow a lot of time away from the house in between naps, so this seemed to be a perfect fit. It resulted in a very colourful session, and I can’t think of much else that would perfectly represent a day in the life of this family.
See what I mean about a story? From breakfast to joining big brother in the biking world; we captured a pretty monumental event in a four-year-old’s life, as well all the details and moments in between unique to this family. Makes for a great blog post, but would also be an awesome photobook or wall display. If you loved watching this day unfold through the photos and would like to book your own session representing your story, contact me today! Let’s get real and get it done.
